Starting a conversation about cancer awareness in Cam and Dursley

People in Cam and Dursley are being encouraged to have a conversation about cancer awareness following the launch of our new project. Knowing the signs and symptoms of cancer, having early conversations with GPs, and attending routine screening can all make a crucial difference, but these discussions don’t have to only take place in a clinical setting. This project is all about accessible information being provided by people you know from the community.

We’ll be raising awareness of what you should be looking out for and when to attend screening appointments, encouraging you to feel more confident talking to their GP, and sharing easy to understand resources during events and in public spaces.

The project has received funding from the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance and follows on from the success of our recent blood pressure outreach campaign which resulted in 671 people having their blood pressure taken at community locations and events, 61% of whom had not had their blood pressure taken in the previous twelve months.

To start the project, the project team are particularly keen to hear from community groups who would welcome a visit from them to share resources and information. Group organisers can contact 01453 548530 or email office@gl11.org.uk.

We are also making a bank of useful resources available on the GL11 website.
