GL11 Community Project gets a makeover!
Volunteers from Lloyds TSB

Volunteers and staff at GL11 Community Project are celebrating a free makeover of our offices and training rooms, thanks to staff from Lloyds TSB Commercial.

An initial approach was made by Lloyds TSB Commercial to the Dursley Volunteer Centre in search of a local community organisation that could benefit from support.

Ann Wheeler, GL11 Community Project Manager, said “This really is an early Christmas present for us all, and we were thrilled when Lloyds TSB Commercial said they wanted to support our work.

“We welcomed students, residents and visitors on more than 7,000 occasions last year and we anticipate more next year – so being able to welcome everyone to our newly painted training rooms and office will be a wonderful start to 2009.”

Marie Muitt, Volunteer Centre Manager, at Dursley Volunteer Centre, said: “Corporate Social Responsibility is becoming a critical issue for many businesses and the volunteer centre network across Gloucestershire offers a free service to help organisations find a project they would like to get involved in.

“Many people get so much satisfaction from events like this and they go on to commit to more regular volunteering which helps to support charities and voluntary groups become more-sustainable in the long-term.”

Tracey Waygood, Communications Manager for Lloyds TSB Commercial, who is co-ordinating the task, said “I’m delighted to be working with GL11 Community Project and have been really impressed with the range of training, services and drop-in activities they offer for residents of all ages”.

“My role is to co-ordinate a team of 20 Lloyds TSB Commercial staff who will be arriving from different parts of the country, armed with paint, brushes and cloths. My colleagues and I are usually sat at our laptops or attending meetings on most days, so the opportunity to work together as a team, in this very different way, at the same time supporting the community, is an event we are greatly looking forward to”.

To add to the feeling of working together two companies have generously donated all the paint and supplies to the team. Staverton Building Supplies who are based at Staverton Airport has provided brushes, rollers and more and Sainsbury’s contractors, Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd, who are undertaking some of the preparatory works for the new store, have donated 50 litres of paint. Our thanks go to both companies for this massive and very valued contribution.
