Teens add sparkle to the Dursley Town Festival!

July 2008: GL11’s Sparkles Group (a group for teenaged girls that meets weekly in Cam) looked absolutely fantastic in this year's Dursley Town Festival carnival procession. The Sparkles made and decorated their own dresses, with support from Jane McKerron (GL11 Activities Co-ordinator), Caron Whitlock (volunteer), Mandy Bailey (Administrator/Receptionist), Stephanie Jackson (volunteer) and Maureen Jarrett (volunteer).

GL11 Commmunity Project Manager, Ann Wheeler said: "I am always impressed by the commitment of staff and volunteers, but we had the additional support of family members and friends – and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone. Our Teddies Stall and Lucky Dip were very popular, and our information stand was busy all day. It was a really great Festival to be part of."

TLC (The Learning Community), an initiative within GL11, took the opportunity to talk to local people at the Festival as part of their consultation programme. TLC Co-ordinator Viv Jones said: "The Festival Day was a fantastic way for us to talk to people and find out what they know about adult learning that's available in the community, and to help us identify the barriers to adult learning. Everyone completing our questionnaire has a chance to win a free meal for two at the Old Spot Inn, and we’re delighted to have their continuing support."
