"The project changes to reflect what local people tell us they need. If enough people express an interest, we will go and apply for any funding we can to make it happen." (Jane McKerron, GL11)

The “Made of Money” course delivered in January and February 2011 received some excellent feedback from the students. This course is a family learning project focusing on money matters, improving communication, and reducing stress about money within families. Feedback from students included:
“I just wanted to say a big thank you for the made of money course. I can’t believe in such a short time, the difference it has already made to the way I am thinking about money. I would justify spending by buying things on offer and shopping at supermarkets (e.g. clothes/ stuff for home) and was burying my head a little due to lack of confidence with maths. I have now decided to do a maths course next!”
“Came here in a muddle and I’m not now!”
“Longer course please”
“Made me re-evaluate everything”
“Makes you feel you are not alone”
“Somebody listens”
“Peace and quiet to think"

GL11 has been a UK Online Centre since April 2010. This means we are part of a national scheme aimed at developing confidence and skills amongst people who have no or very little knowledge of the exciting world of the internet. The following are a sample of comments from students attending our workshops:
“It’s brilliant for over 60s because I’ve learnt how to use computer keyboard, e-mail and attachments which I thought I would never do. Also the teacher (Helen) is very patient”.

“I have found it very helpful. It has given me lots of confidence. I can now start using the PC without any worry. Helen has been very helpful”.

“It has been a great help in giving me confidence to use the key board, to understand how the internet works, to understand terminology. Of great benefit having a tutor to assist when I got stuck. On the whole it has given me the confidence to buy and use my computer for e-mailing and to use it for other functions”.

“It provides a very good general information regarding computing and gives you more confidence”

“I find it very informative and helpful, especially that the tutor leaves us alone to try and find our own mistakes and does not pressurize us in anyway unless to ask for help.”

"I have to admit I didn't get on at school and left without any decent qualifications. I used to take my baby Owen to GL11 and then they told me they were running some courses and asked was I interested. I was bored at home, so I decided to give it a go! Because there's a crèche, it's been easy to take up learning. It's given me a lot of confidence and I feel that when my children are older, and I'm ready to look for a job, the skills I have learned will make all the difference to me. I'd really like to go into counselling, and help people who have suffered from domestic violence."

Cam Mum Beccy Noble talking about her first visit to the Project with her baby daughter Tianna:
"Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and I immediately felt at home. It was a chance for us both to make friends because there is a free crèche. It's walking distance and there's always something going on. I didn't know a soul before – now I really feel part of the community."
